\n\tMore than three decades after Tim Curry<\/a> originated the role of Pennywise in \u201cIt,\u201d his impact is still felt across the franchise and horror fans alike.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHis legacy is incredible, and we\u2019re very thankful that sometimes our name pops up somewhere close to his,\u201d Barbara Muschietti<\/a>, the co-creator of the \u201cIt\u201d prequel series \u201cWelcome to Derry,\u201d tells Variety. \u201cWe will continue watching his incredible movies, and he\u2019ll be in our hearts forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCurry died Aug. 25 from coronary artery disease. He was 80 years old. Although his performance as Pennywise had a profound impact on audiences, Andy Muschietti<\/a>, Barbara\u2019s brother and co-creator of \u201cWelcome to Derry,\u201d says the actor\u2019s legacy extends far beyond the iconic horror role, pointing to projects including \u201cThe Rocky Horror Picture Show,\u201d \u201cAnnie\u201d and his musical career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a shame. It\u2019s bitter, but we\u2019ll remember him,\u201d Andy says. \u201cWe\u2019ll cherish it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sibling director-producer duo revamped the world of Pennywise the Dancing Clown in 2017 with a new adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s \u201cIt.\u201d Starring Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd as the shapeshifting antagonist, the film was followed by \u201cIt Chapter Two\u201d in 2019. The Muschiettis subsequently expanded the franchise with the HBO prequel series, \u201cIt: Welcome to Derry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRecently renewed for Season 2<\/a>, the inaugural season of the show premiered on HBO Max on Oct. 26, 2025, and was set in Derry in 1962, detailing the town\u2019s last encounter with Pennywise prior to the 2017 film. Season 2 will jump back to 1935 and, according to the series\u2019 logline, \u201ccenters on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Bradley Gang Massacre is one of the interludes featured in King\u2019s novel, which Andy teased the second season will incorporate more of. Production hasn\u2019t yet begun, but the director says creatives are currently working on casting.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a completely different world with a lot of surprises,\u201d Andy says of the sophomore season. \u201cIf you like Season 1, you\u2019re going to like Season 2 even more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt: Welcome to Derry\u201d was developed for TV by the Muschiettis and Jason Fuchs, who also worked on the recent \u201cIt\u201d films. The siblings previously told Variety they planned to tell the story across three seasons<\/a>, corresponding with the three cycles of Pennywise in 1962, 1935 and 1908.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Muschiettis were at the opening night of \u201cIt\u201d at the Cosm in Los Angeles, which transforms the film into an immersive, shared-reality experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt feels great,\u201d Andy says about bringing \u201cIt\u201d to life in a new way. \u201cI mean, let alone having the opportunity to show the movie again to a big audience, which is a golden opportunity because most filmmakers don\u2019t have the chance. But these guys created something very special.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u201d at the Cosm is currently available at select locations, but Barbara shares she hopes the experience will eventually expand to cities across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAnything to bring people to the theaters,\u201d she says, \u201cwhich is what we make movies for.\u201d<\/p>\n
