\n Cobh 5-7 (5-1-5) Urhan 0-14 (0-1-12)\u00a0\n <\/p>\n
Five goals saw Cobh progress from Group 2 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier JFC and condemn Urhan to a relegation play-off in Dunmanway last Friday evening.<\/p>\n
Cobh began top of Group 2 and requiring a positive result to progress to the knockout stages. Bottom-placed Urhan needed victory to avoid a potential relegation play-off.<\/p>\n
Ben Sullivan had Urhan on the scoreboard inside the first minute. Cobh\u2019s response was immediate as Adam Lynch cut in along the endline and side-footed into the net.<\/p>\n
Alan Elphick split the posts to hand Urhan their second score. Yet, Cobh\u2019s direct running resulted in a brace of converted Eoin Hastings frees to make it 1-3 to 0-3 after 10 minutes.<\/p>\n
The Beara club enjoyed a dominant spell with two excellent Ben Sullivan points plus two Jamie O\u2019Neill frees levelling matters after 18 minutes.<\/p>\n
Just when it seemed Urhan were gaining a foothold, the concession of a second goal undid all their good work. Ben Geary came up from full-back to fire home a rebounded shot.<\/p>\n
Ben Sullivan replied but Eoin Cullimore (free) and Cork U20 hurler Timmy Wilk pointed at the opposite end to make it 2-5 to 0-7. A converted Hastings free extended Cobh\u2019s lead to five at the interval.<\/p>\n
Cobh copper fastened their eventual victory with two goals inside the opening minutes of the second period.<\/p>\n
Timmy Wilk setup Adam Doran to raise a green flag before Eoin Cullimore punched to the net to hand the East Cork club an unassailable lead.<\/p>\n
Creditably, Urhan rolled up their sleeves and fought to the final whistle.<\/p>\n
Ronan McCarthy, Cian Crowley and Joe O\u2019Shea reduced the deficit.<\/p>\n
Once again, Cobh mustered a response and netted for a fifth time when Evan Cummins finished off a flowing move.<\/p>\n
The remainder of the game proved untidy as Sean Cummins added Cobh\u2019s final point and Ben Sullivan (two) and Alan Elphick completed their opponent\u2019s total.<\/p>\n
The winners will be hoping to go one better than last year’s county semi-final exit. As for Urhan, a relegation play-off against Na Piarsaigh awaits.<\/p>\n
