\n\tSebastian Stan<\/a> spoke out against growing \u201cnegativity\u201d while discussing his upcoming film at the Toronto International Film Festival<\/a> on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor, who stars as a conservative father and husband in the Cristian Mungiu<\/a>-directed film Fjord<\/a>, revealed that the current climate is one of the things that \u201creally pushes my buttons.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s just this negativity that, like, we are unfortunately getting normalized with at the moment,\u201d Stan said at The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s Studio at 1 Hotel during TIFF<\/a>, presented by sponsor Canada Goose. \u201cThe most blatant example is online. It\u2019s just so lazy and it\u2019s so unfortunate because you see people just react. They don\u2019t know what they\u2019re talking about. They\u2019re not reacting \u2014 half the time they don\u2019t offer a solution to it. They don\u2019t offer a counterargument. It\u2019s all just judgment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Stan did not specifically say where the negativity originated, he did share that he believes the \u201cinvitation to be negative\u2026 starts at the top.\u201d The actor previously played President Donald Trump in 2024\u2019s The Apprentice, for which he received an Oscar nomination<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou know where it starts, obviously,\u201d Stan continued. \u201cI don\u2019t wanna go back and take time to point the fingers at anybody, you know. But, it starts, unfortunately, at the top with this invitation to be negative. And it\u2019s like, we\u2019re so fucking special as people. You know what I mean? It\u2019s like, if we can just be curious about it. It\u2019s just, you have the option to have an opinion; form your own opinion. There\u2019s no encouragement for that, seemingly to me, when it comes to, especially, young people.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Marvel actor went on to encourage people to \u201cbe different\u201d and avoid \u201cthe whole looksmaxxing of it all.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGod forbid that you raise your hand and go, \u2018Can I just ask why you feel that way or whatever?\u2019 There\u2019s no encouragement for that, and it\u2019s all we should be doing, is encouraging that,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

\n\tSet in Norway, Fjord follows a religious Romanian family who face scrutiny after moving to a progressive small village. Director Mungiu told THR that the film is an \u201cinvitation to be more tolerant\u201d and explore different viewpoints. Stan echoed his director\u2019s sentiments, adding that Fjord also touches on the complexities of raising children in modern society. It is a question that Stan has been exploring in his own life after reportedly welcoming his first child in July.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis idea that I\u2019ve been thinking about in my own life for a while about raising children, and how do you do it in today\u2019s world,\u201d Stan shared. \u201cWhat works any more; what doesn\u2019t. How can we arrive, mutually, hopefully, at a decision where they [children] benefit. Where not our own prejudice, our own egos, get in the way of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u200aI\u2019m at an age now \u2014 I mean, I just had a kid,\u201d he added. \u201cSo, it\u2019s all very alive and very raw, even the movie, to me. \u2026 I can safely say that I don\u2019t know as much as I thought I did. I can look to my parents; I can look to the messages that I received, but I don\u2019t know if [I] necessarily want to pass that on to my children. At the same time, culture still matters. History still matters, you know, these family traditions. One of the reasons the movie\u2019s so relevant is because I think a lot of people will come at it and it will resonate different things for each person.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
