More than 300 swimmers have braved the waters of the River Liffey in Dublin, for the annual swim through the heart of the capital.<\/p>\n

Now in its 106th year, this swim formed part of a new two-day festival, celebrating the River Liffey.<\/p>\n

The women’s race was won by Sadbh Byrne of Tallaght Masters SC, in her first ever attempt at the swim.<\/p>\n

The men’s race was won by Bruno Delmonte from the Templelogue Open Water Squad.<\/p>\n

The Swim Ireland race is hosted in partnership with Dublin City Council and a series of sporting, cultural and family-friendly maritime activiites are continuing along the Liffey banks this weekend, including live music and water-based activities.<\/p>\n

The 2.2 metre course began at the Rory O’More Bridge and passed beneath 11 bridges before finishing at North Wall Quay in front of the Custom House.<\/p>\n

The women’s race began at midday followed by the men’s race at 1.30pm.<\/p>\n

With high tide falling shortly after 1pm, the women faced a more challenging race, swimming against the oncoming tide which had turned by the time the men’s race began.<\/p>\n

The youngest female entrant Maria O’Dwyer from Wicklow Swimming Club was just 13 whilst twins Lex and Bruce Healy, also 13, were the youngest male entrants.<\/p>\n
