Mastodon<\/a>\u2019s third album, Blood Mountain, celebrates its 20th anniversary on Saturday, September 12th. To mark the milestone, the band\u2019s Troy Sanders and Brann Dailor reflected on the seminal LP in an exclusive interview with CONSEQUENCE.<\/p>\n

Blood Mountain was the band\u2019s first major-label release, having inked a deal with Warner Bros.\/Reprise at the time. It yielded such favorites as \u201cCrystal Skull,\u201d \u201cColony of Birchmen,\u201d and \u201cThe Wolf Is Loose.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember loving recording in Seattle with producer Matt Bayles,\u201d recalled Sanders. \u201cI remember having too much of a good time with my bandmates. I remember being nervous that this was a major label debut with Warner Bros\u2026. Brann was playing drums like a madman. Brent [Hinds] was writing some of the most bizarre and awesome music ever written. Bill [Kelliher\u2019s] crushing it. I was like, \u2018Wow, this is really cool.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Dailor added, \u201cRecording in Seattle was so awesome\u2026 but this time behind the studio they had recently opened a Belgian beer bar, and they had over 100 beers on tap. And I remember Brent being like, \u2018We\u2019re gonna try every single one of the beers on tap, all 100\u2026 and by God, we did it. We were a little bit M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce \u201982 back then.\u201d<\/p>\n

He summed up, \u201cI still love Blood Mountain to this day. I think it\u2019s wildly adventurous, like an album about a mountain should be.\u201d<\/p>\n
