The<br \/>\n\u201cEllis\u201d stools and<br \/>\n\u201cAnchor\u201d coffee tableJennifer Soo<\/p>\n<p>The house<br \/>The 1972 heritage listed waterfront home, built over three levels, has been sympathetically updated to include four bedrooms and an additional granny flat.<\/p>\n<p>Who lives here<br \/>Architect Conrad Johnston, principal of Studio Johnston, his wife, product manager Katrina Johnston, and their three teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>What we did<br \/>\u201cAfter decades of unsympathetic changes, we replaced some fa\u00e7ades and reconfigured the lower level,\u201d says Conrad. \u201cWe enlarged the main suite on the top level, rebuilt living areas, added terraces, a pool and a garden around existing trees, and rebuilt the garage with a two bedroom apartment above.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Favourite room<br \/>\u201cThe open-air living area linking the rainforest courtyard, terraces, pool and waterfront for its seamless indooroutdoor connection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u2019hood<br \/>\u201cWe love Balmain for its central location and harbour shoreline, which offers views from Iron Cove to the city and Harbour Bridge,\u201d says Conrad.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A heritage-listed home blends modernist influences with expansive Sydney Harbour views.
