Mastodon<\/a> have added Baroness<\/a> frontman John Baizley as a member of their touring lineup for their upcoming North American outing, which launches this Wednesday, September 16th. The move comes after Baizley joined Mastodon onstage at a secret warmup club show at The Earl in the band\u2019s hometown of Atlanta this past Friday night.<\/p>\n

Baizley performed with Mastodon for the last six songs of the band\u2019s 14-song set at the intimate venue, playing on tunes like \u201cCurl of the Burl,\u201d \u201cSultan\u2019s Curse,\u201d \u201cColony of Birchmen,\u201d and \u201cBlood and Thunder,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n

After the show, which the band performed under the name Big Hairy Elephant, Mastodon issued the following statement on their social media pages:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a blast at the Earl last night! A great pre-tour warm up before we break out the lasers and LED screens. Our good pal, John Baizley from Baroness joined us, we had so much fun, we\u2019ve invited him to join us on stage during \u2018The Poisonous Weapons Tour\u2019 to play a special set of Mastodon songs we haven\u2019t played in a long time! We\u2019re really excited to bring this special set on the tour. It\u2019s going to epic! Who\u2019s ready to party?\u201d<\/p>\n

Mastodon\u2019s North American \u201cPoisonous Weapons Tour\u201d<\/a> is in support of their superb new album, Marrow Deep<\/a>, the band\u2019s first LP since the exit and subsequent passing of longtime guitarist Brent Hinds. Deafheaven and Alcest are providing support on the outing, with tickets available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For the tour, Mastodon\u2019s lineup will consist of founding members Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor, and Bill Kelliher alongside guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist Jo\u00e3o Nogueira, with Baizley on select songs.<\/p>\n

At the Atlanta gig, Mastodon played four songs from Marrow Deep, including the live debuts of \u201cBarbarians Blood,\u201d \u201cIn the Ruins,\u201d and \u201cPoisonous Weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n
