What does that mean in practical terms, and what will be different for consumers?

Rachel Sexton (RS): Healthspan isn’t just about how long you live. It’s about how good and healthy those years are, which really comes down to whether you can still do the things that matter to you.

Part of our ethos at BioTRUST is being honest about what a supplement can and can’t do. Taking the right products absolutely helps you on your health journey. But products alone are not enough, and they never have been.

So the shift is that we’re not just selling someone a bottle and hoping it works. We’re making sure they have the support and the coaching to hit the goal they came to us for.

For the consumer, that means less guessing. You know what to take, when to take it, and what else needs to be true for it to work including how your food, movement, and sleep fit around it. We’re also building a healthspan coaching experience to support people through it after they checkout, and that’s the part that’s really different.

NI: There’s a lot of talk about longevity right now, but you’ve chosen to emphasize healthspan. How do you distinguish the two, and why does that distinction matter?

RS: Longevity is how long you live. Healthspan is how well you live in the years you have. We emphasize healthspan because that’s the honest description of what we’re trying to do, which is improve our customers’ lives.

We’re in the longevity category, but “longevity” as a word has drifted a bit toward biohacking: expensive testing, elaborate protocols, and a level of income and time most people simply don’t have. It’s starting to feel like a conversation for the affluent.

Most people aren’t trying to optimize a biological age score. They want to keep up with their grandkids. They want to stay strong, stay independent, and not lose the things they love doing. So accessibility is the whole point for us. A plan someone can afford, understand, and actually fit into the life they already have.

NI: What do you believe are the biggest factors that determine whether someone can maintain their health, vitality and independence as they age, and where can supplementation play the greatest role?

RS: Consistency. It’s not necessarily a satisfying answer, but it’s the most fundamental one. People think progress comes from big goals and dramatic changes. What actually determines how you age is what you do on an average day, repeated for years. Averages matter more than optimization.

And the only way you get consistency is if the plan fits the life you have right now, and not the life you’d have if you had more time, more money, or fewer responsibilities. This is where a lot of well-designed nutrition advice falls apart. The plan is technically excellent and completely unlivable, so nobody follows it, and then we blame the person. We believe the best plan is the one you’ll actually do.

Supplementation plays its greatest role when it does exactly what the name says: supplements your diet. It fills the gaps that are genuinely hard to close with food. That’s an important job and we formulate very deliberately around it but it’s a supporting role to everything that supports health & wellness.

NI: The longevity market now spans supplements, functional foods, diagnostics, wearables, personalized nutrition and pharmaceuticals. Where do you see the biggest opportunities for the nutrition and supplement industry?

RS: The biggest opportunity is connecting it. Right now everyone has a point of view and nobody has the whole picture. Diagnostics tell you one thing, your wearable tells you another, your doctor has fifteen minutes, and your supplement brand sends you an email. Every one of those is a fragment, and the customer is the one left trying to make them add up. Nobody designed them to fit together in the first place.

I’d call it the care connection, and until we solve it, I don’t think we get people where they are trying to go. The opportunity is to think about the human before the molecule. The companies doing well right now aren’t only winning on ingredients, they’re winning because people trust them, and because they fit into the life someone is already living.

NI: There is also a lot of hype surrounding longevity. What do you think the industry should be more skeptical of, and what areas of healthy aging deserve more attention?

RS: Be skeptical of anything that sounds like a magic pill. There isn’t one, and there never has been. Every time this industry implies otherwise, it costs all of us a little credibility.

Real results come the same way they come in anything else: something reasonable, done consistently, for long enough to matter. That’s essentially what lifestyle medicine is, and I’d like to see it get far more attention than it currently gets. Lifestyle medicine treats the everyday things — what you eat, how you move, how you sleep, how you manage stress, who you stay close to — as the primary approach to wellness. The evidence behind it is strong, and it has been for a long time.

The reason it gets so little airtime is that nobody can own it. You can’t patent sleep. There’s no margin in telling someone to take a walk after dinner. So the industry keeps its energy on the next ingredient, and the things that matter most end up as background noise.

We believe in lifestyle first, with supplements to support it. That’s the combination that actually helps someone age well, and it deserves a lot more attention than the next breakthrough compound.

NI: Looking ahead, where do you think the healthspan market is headed, and what will separate companies genuinely helping consumers age well from those simply capitalizing on the longevity trend?

RS: I think it moves toward fewer products and better plans. The average person over 50 is buying several things from several brands with no idea how any of it works together. Whoever makes that simple is going to win.

At BioTRUST, we believe better science and better guidance together equal better outcomes. We need both. Good science on its own sits in a bottle and doesn’t do much. Good guidance without the science behind it is just encouragement. And of the two, guidance is the one I think this industry pays the least attention to. It’s also the one that decides whether any of this actually reaches the masses, which is where the real impact is.

NI: Anything else you may want to add?

RS: This category talks about aging like it’s a technical problem. Our customers are in their fifties, sixties and seventies, and they’re not tracking biological age or chasing 120.

They want to keep hiking. They want to get up off the floor with their grandkids. They want to stay independent and not become a burden to their families. That’s a less exciting story than the longevity headlines. It’s also a much bigger group of people, and a much more useful problem to work on.

Also, we’re a small team, and we use technology deliberately so we can start to offer real guidance to a lot of people at once with the kind of support that used to be available only to a few. But the more technology we use, the more it matters that a human stays at the center of it. That’s true in how we show up for the customer, and it’s true behind the scenes: there’s a qualified human training and standing behind every piece of technology we build.

Sexton is leading BioTRUST’s evolution from a product-led nutrition company toward a broader healthspan platform that combines science-based…

[36
103,61,60,446
post-624671","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nutrition","tag-health","tag-ie","tag-ireland","tag-nutrition
["GET
