US PRESIDENT DONALD Trump has dismissed fears related to artificial intelligence as\u00a0 a \u201choax\u201d and said that he is the only \u201cguardrail\u201d needed to control against AI concerns.<\/p>\n
His remarks come amid growing international alarm about AI, with even some tech bosses saying development of computer super-intelligence needs to slow down.<\/p>\n
Last week, researcher Jacob Coxon quit his post at leading AI company Anthropic and warned that the technology \u201ccould kill us all by the end of the decade\u201d.<\/a><\/p>\n Days later, Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei reiterated his calls for AI companies to proceed more slowly and cautiously<\/a> with the development of the powerful technology.<\/p>\n OpenAI boss Sam Altman and Elon Musk quickly chimed in to say they agreed with Amodei\u2019s assessment, as pressure builds for improved oversight.<\/p>\n However, Trump today dismissed these concerns as a \u201choax\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cAI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX,\u201d Trump said in one of a series of posts on his Truth Social network about the subject.<\/p>\n \u201cThe only control or \u2018guardrails\u2019 that AI needs is a strong and smart (High IQ!) president, and the USA has that, in spades!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n He claimed that the US \u201calready have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!\u201d<\/p>\n Trump also claimed that his administration has already stopped Anthropic \u201cfrom doing bad, or potentially bad\u201d things.<\/p>\n Anthropic has endured an uncomfortable relationship with the Trump administration<\/a>, with the Pentagon trying to label the company\u2019s models a security risk and a temporary ban of one of its more advanced models.<\/p>\n Trump meanwhile added on his Truth Social: \u201cThere is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centres, and the only one that is happy about it is China.<\/p>\n \u201cWHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n Trump went on to remark that \u201cPresident Xi, of China, just announced that China will be doing absolutely nothing to stand in the way of AI, or its future\u201d.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cAI, and Data Centres, will be the Greatest Economic Development Engine in History \u00ad\u00ad\u2014 Bigger than Oil, Gold, Diamonds, or even the Internet.<\/p>\n \u201cIt will not be stopped by brilliantly run Destructive Forces during the Term of President DONALD J. TRUMP!\u201d<\/p>\n In an earlier post, Trump claimed that \u201cthe only reason the AI\/Data Centre outburst is happening is because the United States is leading, by a lot, every other country\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cDon\u2019t kill the Golden Goose!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, US vice president JD Vance told reporters this morning that Americans should not be \u201cscared of anything\u201d when asked about AI concerns.<\/p>\n \u201cPersonally, I feel a little bit weird about the fact that you have so many frontier AI tech companies kind of coming to the government and begging the government to regulate them,\u201d said Vance.<\/p>\n \u201cIt feels a little bit to me like a bit of a Trojan horse,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, I think we just have to be careful about this.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere, AI is bringing disparate elements of US politics together in voicing concern about the rapidly advancing technology.<\/p>\n
