Apple TV horror-comedy Widow’s Bay has made Emmy history after winning 14 awards across this year\u2019s ceremonies, the most ever for a comedy series in a single season.<\/p>\n

It surpasses the previous comedy record of 13, set by The Studio last year.<\/p>\n

Widow’s Bay took six prizes at Monday night\u2019s 78th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, including Best Comedy Series, adding to eight wins at the Creative Arts Emmys a week earlier.<\/p>\n

Welsh star Matthew Rhys also made history on the night, becoming the first performer to win two Emmys for lead acting in the same year.<\/p>\n

Rhys was named Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as small-town mayor Tom Loftis in Widow\u2019s Bay, having earlier won Best Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix psychological thriller The Beast in Me.<\/p>\n

Together with his 2018 drama win for The Americans, the 51-year-old also became the first male performer to win across all three lead acting categories.<\/p>\n

Paying tribute to his home country as he collected his second award, Rhys said: “We are a small but mighty nation. This is incredible.”<\/p>\n

Widow\u2019s Bay, which follows a New England island community dealing with a centuries-old curse, also brought wins for Kate O\u2019Flynn and Stephen Root in the supporting comedy acting categories.<\/p>\n

Katie Dippold won for writing, while Hiro Murai took the award for directing.<\/p>\n

Jean Smart continued her remarkable run with Hacks, winning Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the fifth time.<\/p>\n

Smart, who plays stand-up comedian Deborah Vance, became the first performer to win the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy for every season of a show\u2019s run.<\/p>\n

\nThe Pitt star Noah Wyle landed his second Emmy for playing Dr. “Robby” Robinavitch on the medical drama<\/p>\n

In the drama categories, The Pitt retained the award for Best Drama Series, while Noah Wyle won Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second year running for his performance as Dr Michael “Robby” Robinavitch.<\/p>\n

Rhea Seehorn picked up her first Emmy, winning Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Pluribus.<\/p>\n

DTF St. Louis was named Best Limited or Anthology Series, while Sally Field won Best Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for Remarkably Bright Creatures.<\/p>\n

The US version of The Traitors won Outstanding Reality Competition Series for the third consecutive year, while The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took Outstanding Variety Series.<\/p>\n

Dublin cinematographer Darran Tiernan had already secured his first Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmys<\/a>, winning Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour) for his work on the episode Step Into My Office from the Prime Video superhero series Spider-Noir.<\/p>\n

Michael J Fox was also honoured with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his work supporting Parkinson\u2019s disease research through the Michael J Fox Foundation.<\/p>\n

The ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles was hosted by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay.<\/p>\n
