\n\tInternational sales house H264<\/a> has sold Rodrigue Jean<\/a>\u2019s \u201cLabrador \u2013 Autopsy of Silence\u201d to TLA Releasing<\/a> for the U.S. and the U.K. The deal follows the film\u2019s world premiere at the Tribeca Festival, where it won three awards, including best international narrative feature.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt Tribeca, the film also received the awards for best cinematography, presented to Mathieu Laverdi\u00e8re, and best performance in an international narrative feature, awarded to Christopher Angatookalook.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film is produced by Patricia Bergeron, C\u00e9dric Bourdeau and Rodrigue Jean at Transmar Films.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the film, a cargo ship embarks on its final voyage of the year to resupply Inuit communities in the far north of Canada. During a storm off the coast of Labrador, the ship\u2019s cook is found murdered in his cabin. With no way to identify the culprit among the 20 crew members, suspicion falls on Alupa, an Inuit mechanic and close friend of the victim.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAgainst the vast and haunting landscapes of Labrador, the film subverts familiar narrative conventions to explore questions of race, class and sexual identity, revealing a story of remarkable emotional and thematic depth,\u201d H264 said.<\/p>\n

\n\tH264 will release the film theatrically in Canada during winter 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 1989, Jean directed his first short film, \u201cLa D\u00e9route,\u201d followed by the documentary \u201cLa Voix des rivi\u00e8res\u201d and the short film \u201cLa M\u00e9moire de l\u2019eau.\u201d Two dramatic feature films came soon after: \u201cFull Blast\u201d in 1999 and \u201cYellowknife\u201d in 2001. Next came the documentaries \u201cLiving on the Edge\u201d in 2006 and \u201cMen for Sale\u201d in 2008. \u201cLost Song,\u201d his third feature film, won the best Canadian feature film award at Toronto in 2008.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe then spent several years directing documentaries with the film collective Groupe \u00c9pop\u00e9e. In 2014, \u201cLove in the Time of Civil War\u201d premiered at Toronto. In 2020, he directed \u201cThe Acrobat,\u201d his fifth feature film.
