Imamura recently posted a few images of his AI-developed prototype 3D shooter to X<\/a>, and it sounds like he was particularly impressed with the results. \u201cI\u2019m currently testing out game development using AI,\u201d reads the platform\u2019s auto translation of his comments. \u201cBouncing ideas back and forth with the AI \u200b\u200bbrings back the feeling of the days when I used to build games while brainstorming\u2013\u2018let\u2019s try this, let\u2019s try that\u2019\u2013with a programmer. Using it would cause your company\u2019s credibility to plummet\u2014just as happened with Level-5<\/a>. Please, do not go through with this.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI completely understand your point,\u201d Imumara stated<\/a> in response to the criticism. \u201cHowever, given my profession, AI is something I simply can\u2019t ignore, so I\u2019m experimenting with it as a test. I\u2019m not a programmer, so I\u2019m genuinely amazed by how AI can fill in that gap and actually help me turn my ideas into a working game.\u201d<\/p>\n While his initial reply seemed to imply that Imumara wishes to \u201cturn [his] ideas into a working game,\u201d he later stated in a follow-up post<\/a> that he never stated that he plans to release said ideas as a finished product: \u201cIt\u2019s incredible\u2026 I\u2019m getting slammed this hard just for making a quick game prototype using AI\u2026 I never even said a word about finishing or releasing it\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n While a game developer catching heat for using AI to develop a game and then getting surprised by an influx of angry comments is nothing new, it\u2019s interesting that a the majority of Imumara\u2019s detractors seem to be based in Japan.<\/p>\n There\u2019s been an ongoing divide between how different audiences respond to genAI being used in gaming over the past few years, but this kind of negative response from Japanese players makes me the differences are more nuanced than they\u2019ve sometimes appeared.\u00a0<\/p>\n
