{"id":625479,"date":"2026-09-15T15:52:43","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T15:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/625479\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T15:52:43","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T15:52:43","slug":"epf-jumps-to-11th-in-global-pension-rankings-as-investment-income-surges-48","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/625479\/","title":{"rendered":"EPF Jumps To 11th In Global Pension Rankings As Investment Income Surges 48%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Subscribe to our FREE\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/eepurl.com\/iph7XA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Newsletter<\/a>,\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/trpmsia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Telegram<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/TRPmsiaWhatsApp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">WhatsApp<\/a>\u00a0channels for the latest stories and updates.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia\u2019s Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has climbed to <a href=\"https:\/\/says.com\/my\/news\/epf-ranks-11th-top-pension-funds-kwsp-stats\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">11th place<\/a> among the world\u2019s top 300 pension funds.<\/p>\n<p>The ranking comes from the Global Top 300 Pension Funds report, published by the Thinking Ahead Institute on 7 September in association with Pensions &amp; Investments.<\/p>\n<p>EPF placed 11th among both the world\u2019s top pension funds and top sovereign pension funds, with total assets under management (AUM) of USD347,037 million \u2013 about RM1.4 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>EPF\u2019s AUM has climbed steadily over the years, reaching RM1.53 trillion as of June 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the year-by-year breakdown:<\/p>\n<p>June 2026: RM1.53 trillion (+8.97%)<\/p>\n<p>2025: RM1.404 trillion (+12.32%)<\/p>\n<p>2024: RM1.25 trillion (+9.65%)<\/p>\n<p>2023: RM1.14 trillion (+14%)<\/p>\n<p>2022: RM1 trillion (-0.99%)<\/p>\n<p>2021: RM1.01 trillion (+1.2%)<\/p>\n<p>The dip between 2021 and 2022 was largely due to RM145 billion in withdrawals under four Covid-19-era schemes \u2013 i-Lestari, i-Sinar, i-Citra, and the special withdrawal scheme (Pengeluaran Khas).<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s Been Driving Recent Growth<\/p>\n<p>EPF\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/amp\/business\/corporate\/2026\/08\/1513077\/epfs-1h26-investments-income-hits-rm575bil\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second-quarter 2026 results<\/a>, released on 17 August, offer a closer look at what\u2019s behind the climb.<\/p>\n<p>Investment income for 2Q 2026 came in at RM29.77 billion, up 44% from RM20.61 billion a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>That brought total investment income for the first half of 2026 to RM57.5 billion, up 48% from RM38.92 billion in the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Equities accounted for the bulk of gains, contributing RM20.94 billion \u2013 70% of the quarter\u2019s investment income \u2013 up 52% from RM13.77 billion a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>Fixed income added RM6.91 billion, real estate and infrastructure RM1.30 billion, and money market instruments RM620 million.<\/p>\n<p>EPF chief executive officer Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn said the fund had capitalised on strong global equity markets while maintaining a disciplined, long-term investment approach.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned that members should temper expectations, as the favourable market conditions seen in the first half of the year may not be repeated in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>EPF\u2019s total investment assets stood at RM1.54 trillion as of end-June, with 39% invested globally.<\/p>\n<p>Membership also <a href=\"https:\/\/theedgemalaysia.com\/node\/814792\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">grew<\/a>, with 441,850 new members added in the first half of 2026, bringing total membership to 18.5 million.
