{"id":625495,"date":"2026-09-15T16:14:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T16:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/625495\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T16:14:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T16:14:09","slug":"garda-to-be-tried-over-alleged-assault-in-dublin-city-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/625495\/","title":{"rendered":"Garda to be tried over alleged assault in Dublin city \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A Dublin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">garda<\/a> has been sent forward for trial, charged over an alleged assault in the city centre almost two years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Appearing before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/district-court\/\">District Court<\/a>, Pearse Street station-based Patrick Moloney had the prosecution\u2019s book of evidence served on him. The officer did not address the court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He is accused of assaulting a named male, causing him harm, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 at Wellington Quay, Dublin 2, on October 9th, 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The judge noted that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/director-of-public-prosecutions\/\">Director of Public Prosecutions<\/a> had authorised trial on indictment, and  granted an order sending Moloney forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where the case will be listed for mention on October 29th next.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The judge administered the standard caution, warning the accused that if he intended to rely on an alibi in his defence, he must notify the prosecution in writing within 14 days. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">She also ordered the disclosure of any interview videos to the defence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Represented by solicitor Liz Hughes, the accused has yet to enter a plea.
