Brentford secured their spot in the Carabao Cup fourth round with a hard-fought win at League One Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.<\/p>\n
Callum Wilson and Fabio Carvalho both found the net in the first half to put Brentford into a two-goal lead, before Paudie O’Connor’s second-half header ensured the visitors had to work for their victory. <\/p>\n
It took just three minutes for the Bees to take the lead when Dango Ouattara’s pass evaded the home defence and Wilson finished calmly for his second goal for the club since his summer arrival. <\/p>\n
The hammer blow for Reading came in the 46th minute when Ouattara grabbed his second assist of the evening to set Carvalho free and he finished past Joel Pereira with ease in his first game since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in November 2025. <\/p>\n
Reading were fortunate not to have gone three goals down when Ouattara’s header from close range forced Pereira into a save and Michael Kayode made a mess of the rebound. <\/p>\n
The League One side had strong appeals for a penalty turned down in the 71st minute, before O’Connor headed into the bottom corner from the resulting set-piece. He had earlier had a goal from an overhead kick ruled out for a high boot in the box.<\/p>\n
Bees substitute Igor Thiago missed a golden opportunity to wrap up the win late on, while Jannik Schuster’s header was ruled out in stoppage time for a foul. <\/p>\n
