Fermoy\u2019s objection has been upheld following a hearing on Tuesday night, with the McCarthy Insurance Group PIFC clash against Ballinora now officially recorded as a 0-22 to 2-15 victory for the North Cork side.<\/p>\n
The game had originally appeared to finish level on the scoreboard at 0-21 to 2-15 last Saturday in Glenville, but the winner\u2011takes\u2011all Group 3 Round 3 tie was thrown into doubt after referee Wayne King was found to have made a scoring error.<\/p>\n
Fermoy were forced to lodge an objection \u2014 an appeal that has now been successful.<\/p>\n
The controversy centred on a crucial first\u2011half sequence. Fermoy\u2019s Ben Twomey kicked a point in the 30th minute, followed moments later by a superb two\u2011point effort from the same player. That should have brought Fermoy to 0-10 at the break, but only nine points were officially noted.<\/p>\n
Once Twomey\u2019s additional score was verified, Fermoy\u2019s final tally rose to 0-22, enough to edge Ballinora\u2019s 2-15 by a single point.<\/p>\n
Ballinora \u2014 last year\u2019s IAFC champions \u2014 had led 2-7 to 0-9 at half\u2011time after striking for two first\u2011half goals, but the corrected scoring sequence has changed the outcome entirely.<\/p>\n
The decision places Fermoy into the quarter\u2011final picture against Rockchapel. Macroom will meet Naomh Ab\u00e1n in the other quarter-final match.<\/p>\n
