Heimir Hallgrimsson will name his first Ireland<\/a> squad of the season on Thursday, with four games to come in an extended international window over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

Ireland will face Kosovo, Israel, and Austria to kick off their UEFA Nations League campaign. While this competition is not necessarily the most consequential in itself, a good showing would be a boost to the team’s seeding for Euro 2028 qualification.<\/p>\n

With his Irish passport now sorted, Owen Elding will finally be eligible for selection for the upcoming window. While it was initially assumed he would join the U21 setup after declaring for Ireland, it now seems likely that he will be fast tracked into the senior squad.<\/p>\n

Elding trained with the squad during the summer despite not yet being eligible to play and Heimir Hallgrimsson seems like a big fans of the player.<\/p>\n

He would certainly be an interesting addition for the upcoming campaign.<\/p>\n

Seamus Coleman has been named in countless previous Ireland squads, but his inclusion on this occasion would have plenty of added of significance.<\/p>\n

With the player having yet to sort his club future, being part of the upcoming window would suggest that he intends on continuing his playing career and will not retire from football.<\/p>\n

The Donegal man said that the matter was still up in the air during his recent appearance on Stick to Football<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rory Finneran (Notts County, on loan from Newcastle)<\/p>\n

Midfield has been a huge concern for Ireland for quite some time, but it will come under even scrutiny for this window. Both Josh Cullen and Jack Taylor are ruled out due to injury, with Will Smallbone short of fitness due to still being a free agent.<\/p>\n

It may be the ideal time for Heimir Hallgrimsson to take a risk in that position, with Rory Finneran a prime candidate to come into the fold. The 18-year old made his senior international debut during the summer and has gotten his first real taste of men’s football after joining Notts County on loan.<\/p>\n

Jacob Devaney is another player who falls under the same bracket as Finneran.<\/p>\n

He is only in the infancy of his career, but has already shown a huge amount of promise. He has not been involved with the senior setup as of yet, although it would not be a surprise to see that opportunity come this month.<\/p>\n

Devaney is very highly thought of at Manchester United and is someone that Ireland should look to integrate as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Jack Moylan (Cardiff City)

Jack Moylan has certainly had an eventful start to his Ireland career. Having scored a hat-trick on his international debut against Grenada, he would receive a second red card in his second cap against Qatar a few days later.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see if the Dubliner has done enough to earn a permanent place in the squad, although he has looked promising up to this point.<\/p>\n

His inclusion tomorrow would suggest that further opportunities will be forthcoming ahead of the Euro 2028 campaign.<\/p>\n

Trent Kone-Doherty (Molde)<\/p>\n

Ireland have struggled to produce wingers in recent years, making Trent Kone-Doherty a tantalising prospect for supporters.<\/p>\n

His brave decision to move to Molde has been paying off in recent weeks, scoring nine goals in his last six appearances. That includes a hat-trick in their most recent league outing over the weekend.<\/p>\n

This window might come slightly too soon for him, but it would be exciting to see the Derry man make a surprise appearance.<\/p>\n

James Abankwah (Udinese)<\/p>\n

James Abankwah has been in a few Ireland squad in recent times, already earning four caps since the turn of the year. With Nathan Collins likely to be ruled out of this window, the 22-year old could be given a chance to stake a claim for a place in the side over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

He is currently in perhaps the best form of his career, starting each of Udinese’s four league games this season and scoring in their loss to Inter over the weekend.<\/p>\n
