Lena Dunham<\/a> revealed that she\u2019s welcomed her first child \u2015 a baby girl \u2015 via surrogate. <\/p>\n

The \u201cGirls\u201d creator wrote about her journey to parenthood alongside her husband, Luis Felber, in an op-ed for Vogue<\/a> published on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The 40-year-old said her daughter arrived 13 days late \u201cin the face of a solar eclipse and a meteor shower.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI sat on a hospital bed, between the legs of a woman I hadn\u2019t known a year ago, waiting for a glimpse of this person who I had been waiting for with something related to patience, but also none at all,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so focused on our surrogate\u2014in awe at her concentration, her period of quiet followed by what sounded like a roar\u2014I forgot to look down until I heard our baby\u2019s cry. I saw her face, gasping just as she did,\u201d Dunham recalled, saying her midwife instructed her to talk to her newborn. <\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Hello\u2019 I said. \u2018I\u2019m your mama. You\u2026you look nothing like I thought you would, but exactly right. We\u2019ve been waiting for you, do you know that? It was so nice of you to come,\u2019\u201d Dunham shared. <\/p>\n

The \u201cFamesick\u201d author has been candid over the years about her reproductive health struggles, including a yearslong battle with endometriosis and undergoing a hysterectomy<\/a> in 2018. <\/p>\n

Dunham said in an essay for Vogue<\/a> at the time that she removed her uterus and cervix after \u201cyears of complex surgeries measuring in the double digits.\u201d <\/p>\n

After the hysterectomy, the author wrote, she wanted to explore either surrogacy or adoption. <\/p>\n

\u201cSoon I\u2019ll start exploring whether my ovaries, which remain someplace inside me in that vast cavern of organs and scar tissue, have eggs. Adoption is a thrilling truth I\u2019ll pursue with all my might,\u201d she said at the time. <\/p>\n

Dunham hinted that she and Felber wanted to become parents<\/a> soon in an interview with the U.K. Times in 2025. <\/p>\n
