After years of development, Universal\u2019s<\/a> first-ever\u00a0Fast & Furious<\/a> roller coaster is officially open in California.<\/p>\n

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Hollywood<\/a>, with ride vehicles that look like the signature cars from the hit franchise, includes four launches, multiple inversions, and a top speed of 72 miles per hour. Each of the four cars per train can rotate, simulating \u201cdrifting\u201d like the hard-driving heroes from\u00a0Fast & Furious.<\/p>\n

The ride looks great, and people I know who have ridden it give it rave reviews. But not everyone is happy about Universal\u2019s high-tech addition. As soon as\u00a0the park began testing the ride before its grand opening, it\u00a0started to draw\u00a0noise complaints<\/a> from neighbors in nearby Toluca Lake,\u00a0who claim that the screams of joy and terror were interrupting the peace and quiet in their sedate little village.<\/p>\n

With the ride officially open as of today,\u00a0Deadline<\/a> interviewed one notable Toluca Lake citizen about the noise issue: Roy P. Disney, none other than Walt Disney\u2019s great-nephew. who said that no matter\u00a0where he goes in his house, he is not safe from the screams.<\/p>\n

Disney said his complaints have fallen on deaf ears, adding\u00a0\u201cI feel like the complaints go into what I call a round file, and I feel like they figure it\u2019s part of the war they\u2019re playing, and they\u2019re not listening to us, they\u2019re not honoring us, and so we have to do more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deadline reports that Universal has agreed to meet with residents at the end of September to discuss the complaints. The community\u2019s suggestions to mitigate the noise, per the article, include building \u201cplastic hard tops\u201d onto the convertible roller coaster cars, or erecting \u201cfake facades\u201d of buildings around the coaster track to \u201cshield the sound from the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whatever the solution, I hope they can\u00a0reach an amicable one, because I really want that roller coaster to still be in operation the next time I visit Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
