From January 1 to September 8, 2026, the ISS national surveillance system recorded 265 confirmed cases of dengue: 24 of these were autochthonous, while all the other cases were associated with travel abroad (56% with exposure in the Maldives), with no deaths.<\/p>\n

Twenty-five confirmed cases of chikungunya were also recorded: one of these cases was identified as autochthonous, while all the others were associated with travel abroad (42% with exposure in the Seychelles), with no deaths, and three cases of Zika virus, all associated with travel abroad, with no deaths<\/p>\n

Regarding West Nile virus, 594 confirmed cases of West Nile virus (WNV) infection recorded in humans, of which 306 were neuroinvasive (including 5 imported cases: 1 from the Maldives, 1 from France, 1 from Belgium, 1 from Greece, and 1 from the Netherlands), 81 asymptomatic cases identified in blood donors, 202 cases of fever (1 imported case from Burkina Faso), 4 cases with other symptoms, and 1 asymptomatic case.<\/p>\n

Among the confirmed cases, 41 deaths have been reported (including one from an imported case). The case fatality rate, calculated on the autochthonous neuroinvasive forms reported and confirmed to date, is 13.3% (in the same period in 2025, 15.0%).<\/p>\n

The number of provinces with demonstrated WNV circulation within 19 regions has risen to 79 (in the previous bulletin, there were 75 provinces in 19 regions).
