Here\u2019s why \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">It has long been known that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/artificial-intelligence\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/artificial-intelligence\/\">AI<\/a> poses  risks to humanity, but the  scale of them is  only starting to become clear. And   those risks are terrifying. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">This month Evan Hubinger, a top scientist at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/anthropic\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/anthropic\/\">Anthropic<\/a>, said AI is advancing so quickly he believes there is a greater than 10 per cent chance it \u201ccould kill all humans\u201d within the next decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">Jacob Coxon, an AI researcher who has just quit Anthropic and previously worked at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/openai\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/openai\/\">OpenAI<\/a>, has warned of \u201csuperhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionise any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph free \">AI is a multibillion business that\u2019s moving at a speed no one could have predicted. But can it be regulated \u2013 and who would actually carry out that  function effectively?
