{"id":626974,"date":"2026-09-17T00:38:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T00:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/626974\/"},"modified":"2026-09-17T00:38:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T00:38:12","slug":"man-60s-charged-over-alleged-assault-attempt-while-approaching-taoiseach-at-ploughing-championships-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/626974\/","title":{"rendered":"Man (60s) charged over alleged assault attempt while approaching Taoiseach at ploughing championships \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A man in his 60s has been charged over an alleged attempted assault while approaching Taoiseach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/micheal-martin\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/micheal-martin\/\">Miche\u00e1l Martin<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-ploughing-championships\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-ploughing-championships\/\">National Ploughing Championships<\/a> in Screggan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/offaly\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/offaly\/\">Co Offaly<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The man was arrested by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/an-garda-siochana\/\">garda\u00ed<\/a> at the event shortly after midday on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It is understood the man was stopped by garda\u00ed as he tried to make his way to the Taoiseach, and he was arrested arising out of his interaction with the Garda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Garda\u00ed said no one was injured in the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The man was arrested under the Public Order Act and brought to a Garda station in Co Offaly.
