{"id":627090,"date":"2026-09-17T03:02:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T03:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/627090\/"},"modified":"2026-09-17T03:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T03:02:09","slug":"president-connolly-meets-king-charles-in-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/627090\/","title":{"rendered":"President Connolly meets King Charles in Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Catherine Connolly has met with King Charles as part of her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/2026\/0916\/1591703-connolly-visit-scotland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">four-day official visit to Scotland.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>President Connolly was a special guest at a dinner hosted by the King at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire last night.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the President said a number of other guests were in attendance at the dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Dumfries House, which is situated on an extensive parkland estate, an hour south of Glasgow, is the headquarters of the King&#8217;s Foundation, a charitable organisation established by King Charles to manage his various philanthropic interests.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, King Charles had hosted a reception at the &#8220;Harmony in Food and Farming&#8221; summit at the 18th century mansion.<\/p>\n<p>Former US Secretary of State John Kerry was also in attendance at that event.<\/p>\n<p>President Connolly and King Charles met previously at Buckingham Palace in May last year during Connolly\u2019s three-day official visit to England.<\/p>\n<p>During that meeting Ms Connolly invited King Charles to make a state visit to Ireland, which the King accepted in principle.<\/p>\n<p>President Connolly will meet with Glasgow&#8217;s First Citizen Jacqueline Mclaren at Glasgow City Hall before attending GAA training and a musical performance at St Patrick&#8217;s Primary school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"President Catherine Connolly has met with King Charles as part of her four-day official visit to Scotland.
