At a meeting of the Central Area committee of Dublin City Council on Tuesday, Councillor Malachy Steenson had a motion on policing ruled out of order by the Council management \u2013 which he pointed out are not councillors.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

He did manage to speak on another policing and crime related motion as contained in the video.<\/p>\n

Councillor Steenson\u2019s motion had demanded that the Garda Commissioner attend a Council meeting to discuss \u201cThe breakdown of law and order\u201d and his decision \u201cnot to prosecute those caught with drugs for personal possession despite this committee\u2019s rejection of such a proposal as set out by the Oireachtas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gript has covered this previously in regard to the personal reaction of Councillor Steenson and other Council members to the proposal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Steenson also referred to \u201cwhat is going on in Store Street Station\u2019 \u2013 saying that there are now [Garda] members before the Courts charged with assisting an Organised Crime Gang, with over 200 charges between them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Councillor Steenson demanded to know \u201cwhy were charges against Inspector Roberts dropped <\/a>and who decided firstly to charge him and then drop the charges last Friday?\u201d<\/p>\n

Steenson claimed that failure of the Garda\u00ed to engage with the Council and local community and the failure of the Commissioner to answer the questions put to him \u201cwill lead to a further reduction in the confidence of our constituents in the Garda\u00ed.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said that a member of an organised gang previously being a member of Dublin City Council \u2013 referring to Jonathan Dowdall, who was a councillor for Sinn F\u00e9in at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
