A man is due in court this morning charged in connection with the assault on Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae.<\/p>\n
The man, aged in his 50s, is due to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court at around 10.30am.<\/p>\n
Mr Healy-Rae was travelling in his own vehicle on Cork Street in Dublin city at around 4.10pm on Wednesday when he was approached by a man who assaulted him through the window of his car.<\/p>\n
Following the assault, the Kerry TD was taken from the road by garda\u00ed who were quickly on the scene.<\/p>\n
They took him to Kevin Street Garda Station and an ambulance was called.<\/p>\n
He attended St Vincent’s University Hospital for his injuries, and was discharged around 9pm on Wednesday night, having needed stitches for injuries to his face and mouth.<\/p>\n
The former minister of state had been in Leinster House earlier and was on his way home when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n
