Britain’s King Charles looks set to endure a third day of controversy as the war of words between Buckingham Palace and Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother, continues.<\/p>\n
In the latest extract from Mr Spencer\u2019s book serialised in the Daily Mail, Diana\u2019s brother claimed that the late Queen Elizabeth II considered restoring his sister\u2019s Her Royal Highness title, which she lost when she divorced\u00a0 Charles.<\/p>\n
It comes after a dispute blew up between Charles and Mr Spencer, who claimed the then-prince told him, \u201crest assured, we\u2019ll forget her soon enough\u201d, days after Diana died in 1997.<\/p>\n
Mr Spencer further claimed in his memoir of his sister that Charles sounded \u201cgiddily elated\u2026 like a lottery winner\u201d when he rang the earl following Diana\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
In other passages of the book, the earl described how his sister drove \u201cmore than once\u201d to the cliffs at Beachy Head in East Sussex and was \u201ccontemplating ending it all\u201d, adding that \u201cher love for her sons stopped her from going further\u201d.<\/p>\n
The excerpt went on to claim Diana told her brother \u201cmy husband is in love with his valet\u201d after telling him she was going to get divorced.<\/p>\n
The palace has yet to respond to the latest claims, but a spokesman said on Wednesday \u201cfraternal grief can cloud reason\u201d.<\/p>\n
The British royal family were out in force on Thursday with Charles presiding over a gathering of the world\u2019s leading AI companies, where he warned of the \u201cexistential dangers\u201d of the new technology falling into the wrong hands.<\/p>\n
