The house was designed by a well-known Vancouver artist and jeweller.<\/p>\n

A unique house has hit the market in B.C.<\/p>\n

Located on Mount Elizabeth on North Pender Island, the house looks out over the island from its mountainside perch. Built in the 1990s, the house itself fits in with the surrounding nature.<\/p>\n

Designed by Karl Stiggen, an award-winning\u00a0artist and well-known jeweller<\/a>, it became his sanctuary for the last 30 years of his life. Dubbed Halcyon Days, Stiggen was inspired by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who worked in the Prairie School of architecture and was inspired himself by Japanese design principles.<\/p>\n

“An homage to Frank Lloyd Wright, Karl meticulously designed the home in accordance with Frank Lloyd Wright’s principles atop a spectacular, yet hidden property on North Pender Island,” writes Sotheby’s agent Nicole Eastman about the house.<\/p>\n

The 3,200-square-foot house includes three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Given Stiggen’s artistic interests, there’s also a pair of kilns.<\/p>\n

There’s also a library, with custom shelving, a seating area and a stone fireplace.<\/p>\n

The property also has a guest cottage (where Stiggen spent the last years<\/a> of his life) and a tea house tucked away as a sanctuary with a view out over the area.<\/p>\n

“Although one level, it is elevated above the garage and an elevator provides convenient access to bring goods up to the house. You enter the home and are guided into the main living space. With large windows and the unique triangular window protruding outwards, you are immersed into the view of the forest below and the ocean beyond,” Eastman says.<\/p>\n
