In an extract of a BBC interview released on Friday, the earl insisted he is \u201ctelling the truth\u201d and described the King\u2019s comments about his sister as \u201cmonstrous\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking about an alleged row over Diana\u2019s funeral arrangements involving her sons, the earl said: \u201c(The King) went ballistic, would be the right term, and started really going for my family as a whole, about their sense of duty, not being adequate enough, and ranted for a while, I have no idea how long, but it was a significant period, and I just listened.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then he stopped, and I thought, \u2018Oh now he\u2019s going to pull himself together and say something more appropriate\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then he said, \u2018We\u2019ll forget her soon enough\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked whether he has \u201cevidence\u201d of the King\u2019s comments, the earl told the BBC: \u201cI told friends and family straight away, close friends and family, about what had been said, because it was so monstrous.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cI\u2019m telling the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Charles is said to have made the comments about his ex-wife in a row with the earl over whether the then Prince William and Prince Harry should follow Diana\u2019s funeral cortege.<\/p>\n

In the latest extract of the earl\u2019s book serialised in the Daily Mail, Earl Spencer told of his memories of the funeral, and his concern for Harry, after he observed a \u201clack of obvious care\u201d for the then 12-year-old prince.<\/p>\n
Earl Spencer walked behind Diana\u2019s coffin during the funeral procession on 6 September 1997, alongside Harry, William, then 15, Charles, and the late Duke of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n
Recounting the train journey from London to Althorp after the funeral, Earl Spencer said: \u201cMy chief memory of that train journey is of being concerned at the lack of obvious care for Harry, as he decompressed from the ghastliness of the morning.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe needed Diana\u2019s hugs, of course, and they would forever be denied him.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut instead of calm and nurture, he was allowed to spin out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earl Spencer said he could not get over how \u201ctiny, and slight, and bereft\u201d his nephew looked, adding he remembers thinking Harry was \u201ctoo small to be doing this\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a previously published excerpt, Earl Spencer claimed the then-prince Charles \u201cwent nuts\u201d in a row over Diana\u2019s funeral arrangements, after he told him she \u201cnever would have wanted\u201d her sons to walk behind her coffin.<\/p>\n
The earl claimed Charles told him: \u201cThat\u2019s the problem with your family.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve got no bloody sense of duty.\u201d<\/p>\n
The earl further claimed that on that same train journey, he was told the late Queen Elizabeth II had offered to restore Diana\u2019s Her Royal Highness title.<\/p>\n
Earl Spencer said Elizabeth\u2019s private secretary, Robert Fellowes, relayed the offer after the late Queen phoned him.<\/p>\n
The earl recounted telling Fellowes that while Elizabeth\u2019s offer was \u201cvery kind\u201d, he failed to see the point in restoring her title, adding: \u201cI mean \u2013 Diana\u2019s dead.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earl Spencer further claimed Elizabeth reacted \u201ctetchily\u201d to news of his sister having been in a car accident.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cWhen the Queen had heard the first news of Diana\u2019s being in a traffic accident, she had asked tetchily, \u2018What is she up to now?\u2019<\/p>\n
