\n\tMelissa Barrera<\/a>, who was fired from the \u201cScream\u201d franchise due to social media posts criticizing Israel amid the war in Gaza in 2023, is voicing her respect for the musicians who have dropped out of Ed Sheeran\u2019s tour following Macklemore<\/a>\u2019s dismissal over his support for Palestine.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was so beautiful to see Finneas and the band and all the opening acts pulling out in support of Macklemore,\u201d the actress said (via AP<\/a>). \u201cIt made me emotional. You know, I didn\u2019t get that when it happened to me. I didn\u2019t have any of that happen. It was too soon. People were too scared. But it\u2019s good to see that almost three years later, at least things have changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMacklemore was removed from Ed Sheeran\u2019s U.S. Loop Tour after delivering a political speech and saying \u201cFree Palestine\u201d while onstage at the Sept. 4 concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The singer told the audience<\/a> he wanted people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank to know they had not been forgotten. He was then dropped from the tour <\/a>days later on Sep. 14.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the time since, openers including Finneas<\/a> and Aaron Rowe<\/a> have pulled out of the tour, citing their support for the \u201cThrift Shop\u201d singer. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Barrera was fired by \u201cScream\u201d franchise producer Spyglass, the company said it had \u201czero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.\u201d She had starred in 2022\u2019s \u201cScream\u201d and that year\u2019s \u201cScream VI.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tAt the time, Barrera\u2019s fellow \u201cScream\u201d cast members remained largely mum on her firing. While both Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon dropped out of \u201cScream 7,\u201d released earlier this year, only recently did co-star Matthew Lillard say he feels<\/a> \u201cashamed\u201d for starring in the 2026 installment in the horror franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tBarrera continued: \u201cWhen someone is attacked, and there are people behind being like, \u2018We\u2019re not gonna allow this,\u2019 and the more that happens, the less that the people in power are going to try to censor it because eventually it\u2019s not gonna work. I can\u2019t help but wonder what would have happened if Ed Sheeran had been like, \u2018No,\u2019 and called the bluff. I mean, it\u2019s possible that he still would have had his shows canceled, but I bet you that he could have rebooked those shows in other venues just as easily, and people would have rallied behind him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI wish that the people that have power understood the power that they have,\u201d she concluded. \u201cI think that the problem is that there\u2019s a lot of people that actually have a lot of power. They think they don\u2019t, and they\u2019re operating out of fear, and it\u2019s just a shame because, you know, we just saw what happened\u2014the support that rallied behind Macklemore\u2014and I think that\u2019s a big step. I think that what we\u2019re seeing, what we\u2019re witnessing, is going to inspire real change, and I\u2019m very hopeful about that.\u201d<\/p>\n
