A woman who woke in the middle of the night while sleeping in her child\u2019s room to find her husband \u201chiding in the corner\u201d and \u201claughing\u201d has been granted an interim barring order against him.<\/p>\n
The woman, who is separated from her husband, sought the emergency order at Dublin District Family Court on Friday morning, saying she and her children \u201cfear him returning home each night\u201d.<\/p>\n
She told Judge Gerard Furlong he regularly entered the house \u201clate at night\u201d and left \u201cearly in the mornings\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe go to bed early and close our doors, listening for him coming in,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The woman was previously granted a safety order against her husband, telling the judge he was arrested that night after she called for garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
It was one of several occasions in which he breached the order, she claimed. On another occasion, she alleged her husband arrived home \u201cvery high on drugs\u201d and attempted to \u201cfight\u201d their child.<\/p>\n
Alleging he told the child he was \u201cgoing to punch them in the face\u201d, the woman claimed her husband \u201cdidn\u2019t know\u201d who they were at the time.<\/p>\n
She told the court she was sleeping in \u201cbunk beds\u201d with her child and recently woke at 1am saying she could \u201csense him in the dark room\u201d and was \u201cafraid\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said she switched on the light and saw her husband \u201chiding in the corner behind the door\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was laughing at me,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Furlong granted an interim barring order on an ex parte basis, where only one side is represented. The order, which will prevent the husband from entering the house, will last until a full hearing, during which he can give evidence.<\/p>\n
A barring order of up to three years could be granted or denied after.<\/p>\n
She was one of dozens of people to seek emergency orders at the court on Friday, one of whom was granted a protection order after alleging that her partner \u201cthrows water and spits on\u201d their autistic child when the child cannot regulate their actions.<\/p>\n
Several parents sought protection against their children, including an elderly man who alleged he had \u201coften felt under physical threat\u201d from his son, aged in his 50s.<\/p>\n
His son had been living with him for several years, he said, claiming there were \u201cconstant episodes of verbal intimidation and verbal aggression\u201d on a \u201cdaily occurrence\u201d.<\/p>\n
During the summer, the man who had mobility issues alleged that his son left him sitting in the middle of a beach for about 30 minutes \u201cwithout explanation\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said he was \u201ccertain\u201d this was an \u201cact of emotional abuse\u201d. He also claimed his son prevents family members and others from entering his home, which \u201cisolates\u201d him.<\/p>\n
The man further claimed his son had twice left him in the house while the cooker was on, resulting in \u201cextensive smoke\u201d.<\/p>\n
Furlong granted an interim barring order, which would see the son removed from the house. The judge added a clause preventing him from contacting his father.<\/p>\n
In another case, a woman sought a protection order from her young adult daughter, whom she alleged had recently attacked her \u201cout of nowhere\u201d.<\/p>\n
She claimed her daughter pushed, shoved and punched her after she asked if her daughter was okay.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has been happening for years. I even had to get cameras put in my home for my own safety,\u201d she said, alleging she was afraid of what she would \u201cdo next\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s heartbreaking having to do this,\u201d she said after being granted a protection order. She said her daughter was \u201cout of control\u201d.<\/p>\n
