Jos\u00e9 Mourinho<\/a> needed only a sheet of paper to deliver his verdict \u200con Sunday\u2019s Madrid derby, waving images of two first-half tackles as he accused the officials of losing control in Real Madrid\u2019s<\/a> 2-1 defeat by Atletico \u200cMadrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Real were furious that Atletico defender Cristian Romero was not sent off for a stamp on Jude Bellingham<\/a> and they complained about a challenge by \u200bLee Kang-in on Federico Valverde, before the visitors were themselves reduced to 10 men five minutes after half-time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could skip the press conference because the story of the match is right here,\u201d Mourinho said, holding up the images in what was the start of a near five-minute rant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThose were two \u200bclear red cards. The difficulties we\u2019ve faced since the sending-off. Eleven against 10. Well, we can imagine what 50 minutes of 11 against nine would have \u2060been like if justice had been done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Real defender Dean Huijsen was dismissed for bringing down Giuliano Simeone inside the \u200carea \u200cas \u200bthe last defender, allowing Alejandro Grimaldo to score with a low spot kick. Jonathan David doubled Atletico\u2019s lead six minutes later, with Antonio R\u00fcdiger heading in a free kick late on \u2060to reduce the deficit.<\/p>\n

Mourinho said he could only \u201chug\u201d his \u200bplayers after what he described as a first half \u201cfull of \u200bclass and great character\u201d, but he aimed sharp criticism at referee Miguel \u00c1ngel Ortiz Arias and those who appointed him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve put \u200ca referee, aged 41, with no international experience \u2013 \u200bit\u2019s certainly not because he\u2019s a great referee,\u201d the former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham manager said. \u201cThen the poor chap has come here and hasn\u2019t been able \u2060to cope with the pressure \u2013 and it really \u2060is intense pressure. I call \u200bit \u201980s-style pressure\u2019 here in this stadium, which you hardly ever see these days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about being six points behind Barcelona, Mourinho offered a pointed reply.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they just leave us in peace and let us compete on a level playing field with everyone else, we\u2019ve still got a long way to go,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t want to go so far as to say this was set up … I want to believe that they simply made a mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about Mourinho\u2019s comments, Atletico manager Diego Simeone urged restraint.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhoever is speaking \u2013 be it me, Mourinho, Hansi Flick or \u200cManuel Pellegrini, anyone \u2013 we have \u2060to be careful what we say,\u201d Simeone said. \u201cWhen you step outside the bounds of respect, whoever you are, it\u2019s not on. You can\u2019t cross that line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simeone preferred to focus on Atletico\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we saw a \u200cgreat match; we defended very well against a team that plays very well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe controlled the match when it was 11 against 11. We \u200bcontinued to control it when it became 10 against 11. But this isn\u2019t just \u200banother step towards continuing to grow and improve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Atletico climbed above Real into second in the standings on 16 points, five behind leaders Barcelona, but level with Real Betis<\/a> and one ahead of Real Madrid in Spain\u2019s<\/a> top flight.
