Star Wars production company Lucasfilm has sent congratulations to the team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a> after it became the highest-grossing film of all time in North America.<\/p>\n

The blockbuster has grossed 936.7 million US dollars across America and Canada in just 47 days, beating the record of 936.6 million by Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lucasfilm wrote on social media: “Impressive. Most impressive.<\/p>\n

“From a galaxy far, far away, everyone at Lucasfilm sends massive congratulations to Destin, Tom, everyone at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios and the entire team behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day on setting a new domestic box office record and taking the crown from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”<\/p>\n

The company shared an animated photo of Spider-Man throwing his hands in the air along with a message reading: “The force is strong with you! Congratulations from Lucasfilm.”<\/p>\n

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Instagram account also posted a message acknowledging the record, writing: “Doesn’t get bigger than this.<\/p>\n

“Thank you to the fans for helping #SpiderManBrandNewDay make cinematic history – it\u2019s now the highest-grossing domestic release of ALL TIME at the North American box office.”<\/p>\n

Brand New Day has become the quickest feature to reach multiple domestic box office milestones from 400 million US dollars to 900 million.<\/p>\n

It is currently the third-highest grossing film of all time, with 2.45 billion US dollars made at the global box office.<\/p>\n

It is beaten only by Avengers: Endgame at 2.7 billion US dollars and the highest grossing film of all time, Avatar, at 2.9 billion US dollars.<\/p>\n

Brand New Day, which was released on 31 July, is actor Tom Holland\u2019s fourth outing as web-slinging hero Peter Parker.<\/p>\n

The film made 355 million dollars in the US and Canada on its opening weekend and another 572 million dollars at the international box office.<\/p>\n

Sony Pictures spent 225 million dollars to make Brand New Day, not including marketing costs.<\/p>\n
