IN THE LATEST edition of Nobody Needs This, Emer McLysaght gives her take on the process of buying gig tickets.<\/a><\/p>\n

As well as looking back on the days of physically queuing to buy tickets, McLysaght compares the price she once paid to see Oasis with the band\u2019s asking price of around \u20ac200 for their Slane Castle shows next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy ticket for The Point in 1997 was \u00a319. According to the Centre for Economics, Politics and History\u2019s inflation calculator that\u2019s around \u20ac44 in today\u2019s money.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen again, if the fans are willing to pay it, what\u2019s going to change?\u201d<\/p>\n

There has been a string of concert announcements in recent weeks \u2013 and ticket prices have proved to be as much a part of the conversation as the tours themselves.<\/p>\n

For example, tickets for Harry Styles\u2019s Croke Park shows<\/a> range from \u20ac50 to \u20ac267.90, while those seeing Fontaines DC at Slane next summer<\/a> will pay between \u20ac87.50 and \u20ac149.80 for their spot on the field.<\/p>\n

The Journal reported in June that cost was one of several factors<\/a> impacting the demand for concerts, with most outdoor events taking place this summer costing around \u20ac100.<\/p>\n

So, we want to ask: How much would you be willing to spend on a gig ticket?<\/p>\n
