Further charges are to be brought against two men accused of raping a woman in the car park of Ceannt Railway Station in Galway last month.<\/p>\n
The men – aged 25 and 27 – appeared via video-link at this morning’s sitting of Galway District Court, where proceedings were translated for them by an Arabic interpreter.<\/p>\n
They cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim.<\/p>\n
Judge Fiona Lydon was told during a brief hearing that directions from the DPP were now at hand.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Damien Prendergast outlined the State\u2019s application to have both men produced before the Court, later this week, so that further charges could be put to them.<\/p>\n
Judge Lydon acceded to the request.<\/p>\n
When asked to clarify matters in relation to this, by one of the accused, through the interpreter, Sergeant Prendergast said the additional charge related to the alleged incident on 1 August, 2026 at the Railway Station in Galway.<\/p>\n
Both the accused men have been denied bail by the High Court and were further remanded in custody this morning.<\/p>\n
Each has already been charged with the rape of a female on 1 August, at Ceannt Railway Station car park.<\/p>\n
They are also charged with falsely imprisoning the same alleged victim, on the same date and at the same location.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old faces a separate charge in relation to the alleged theft of a black gear bag, with contents to the value of \u20ac450, from a pub in Galway city.<\/p>\n
The Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to this matter being dealt with in the District Court.<\/p>\n
