Free advice will be on offer as one of Cork’s main hospitals holds a special Memory Awareness Day – showcasing the services available to those suffering with dementia.<\/p>\n
Mercy University Hospital (MUH) will host the free Memory Awareness Day on Tuesday, October 6. You’ll be able to get to grips with all the vital services<\/a> provided by St Brendan\u2019s Regional Specialist Memory Clinic – as experts offer practical guidance, clinical information and support pathways for individuals living with memory difficulties.<\/p>\n Attendees at the awareness event will have the opportunity to chat directly with the clinic\u2019s multidisciplinary team, including representatives from Geriatric Medicine, Neurology, Neuroradiology, Neuropsychology, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics, Medical Social Work and the Brain Health team.<\/p>\n Event detailsWhat: St Brendan\u2019s Regional Specialist Memory Clinic \u2013 Memory Awareness Day 2026When: Tuesday, October 6, 2026Time: 3:00 pm \u2013 7:00 pmWhere: Lancaster Gate Medical Building, Cork City, T12 Y63CAdmission: Free Entry \u2013 All Welcome (No prior booking or GP referral required)Queries: For further information, contact skenny@muh.ie<\/a><\/p>\n Key external support organisations will also be on hand, including Dementia Advisers from The Alzheimer Society of Ireland and representatives from the Memory Technology Resource Centre, who will showcase assistive daily living aids, home supports and practical community resources.<\/p>\n Dr R\u00f3n\u00e1n O\u2019Caoimh, Consultant Geriatrician \/ Clinical Lead, said: “Receiving an accurate, timely diagnosis and having clear, continuous support can make a profound difference to a person experiencing complex cognitive changes and their family. Our Level 3 service at St Brendan\u2019s is designed to provide comprehensive, sensitive diagnostic assessments paired with dedicated post-diagnostic care.<\/p>\n “This Awareness Day offers an open, informal setting where the public, families and healthcare colleagues can meet our interdisciplinary team, ask questions and discover the wide spectrum of care and community supports available.”<\/p>\n St Brendan\u2019s Regional Specialist Memory Clinic is one of four national Level 3 specialist memory services developed and funded under the HSE National Service Plan, in alignment with Ireland\u2019s Model of Care for Dementia.<\/p>\n Delivered through a dedicated Geriatric Medicine-led multidisciplinary team, the clinic provides in-depth assessment and structured post-diagnostic support for patients aged 65 and older with complex or atypical symptoms, as well as individuals of any age with suspected Young Onset Dementia (YOD). The service is actively accepting referrals from general practitioners via Healthlink.<\/p>\n
