FOR SOME PLAYERS who go on The Traitors, an early murder or banishment means the game is over for them before it\u2019s barely even started. Then, at the other end, you have the players that get to experience all the twists and turns but are knocked out at the very last moment before the final.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This year, that was Kayleigh and Pete, who were the last players murdered and banished respectively ahead of the final episode tonight.<\/p>\n
The two faithfuls had a big impact on this year\u2019s game \u2013 Pete, for his influence over some other players and his dramatic fall from favour, and Kayleigh, for her straight-shooting approach and her rivalry with traitor Pauric O.<\/p>\n
Keeping up that candidness in an interview with media outlets including\u00a0The Journal today, Kayleigh joked that she\u2019s not rooting for anyone in particular to win tonight, now that it can\u2019t be her.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot that it doesn\u2019t make any difference, but I just can\u2019t get over the fact that I didn\u2019t win. I\u2019m just absolutely raging still,\u201d she said lightheartedly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had that money spent in my head, and now I can\u2019t spend it. So, I\u2019m just like, \u2018What am I meant to do now? Just accept that somebody else won and be happy for them? I\u2019m like, Absolutely not.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I have to give you a name, I\u2019d say Diego. Why the hell not? One of them has to win it. So, Diego, yes, if it can\u2019t be me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

When it came time for traitors Carla and Pauric to choose their final victim to murder, there weren\u2019t many faithfuls left to choose from. Kayleigh got the short end of the stick and was ousted \u2013 but if she\u2019d made it to the end, what would her strategy have been? Who would she have wanted to end the game with?<\/p>\n
\u201cMyself. Burn them all,\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted all the money. I didn\u2019t want to half it. I definitely didn\u2019t want to split it in three or four. That would not have gone with my plan,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
My plan was just to win all the money.<\/p>\n
\u201cI suppose, I don\u2019t know if you can win the thing on your own, so I probably would have had to share it with somebody, reluctantly, but sure, yeah. I\u2019ll pretend that I\u2019m happy for the winners.\u201d<\/p>\n
Someone she\u2019d rather not see win is Pauric O. \u201cI was fit to kill him from episode one,\u201d she recalled. When she found out he was a traitor, her reaction was that: \u201cHe can\u2019t win, like literally for my sanity and for my mental health and everything \u2013 I was like, I just cannot see this bloke win.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, I\u2019m going to be on edge all day today until I find out who actually skips away with money!\u201d<\/p>\n
What have staff and students at the school where she works as a teacher made of her time on the show?<\/p>\n
\u201cThe nicest thing that the teachers have said to me was, \u2018At least you\u2019re the same person. At least that\u2019s the Kayleigh that we get here in the staff room\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was kind of looking at them going, \u2018Who did you think you were going to get?\u2019\u2026 People are kind of saying like on one hand that I\u2019m quite direct, to the point, a little bit harsh \u2013 I could think of a worse word to call myself, but I won\u2019t! \u2013 but, then they\u2019re like, \u2018Oh, you\u2019re also yourself.\u2019 So, it\u2019s kind of like a backhanded compliment, but I\u2019m just saying thank you to everything.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then the girls are hilarious. They\u2019re asking me all day, every day, \u2018Miss, are you on TikTok? Are you on TikTok?\u2019 I\u2019m just like, \u2018Go away, get back to class.\u2019 I\u2019m not entertaining it really at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Pete was banished at the roundtable after raising suspicions. RT\u00c9<\/p>\n

Fellow faithful Pete held out a little longer, managing to make it to that night\u2019s roundtable, but was swiftly banished after being accused of \u2018confusing\u2019 the game with gameplay moves that the other players found suspicious.<\/p>\n
Like a fair few other cast members, Pete was suspicious of Carla, but kept gunning for other players instead \u2013 why?<\/p>\n
He explained the thought process behind it was that the players were fairly sure Carla was a traitor, so the priority instead was to find her accomplice, instead of knocking out Carla and going back to square one if someone else was recruited as a traitor in her place.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, you are hoping that maybe you\u2019ll be recruited yourself and say, right, I can play this from a different angle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I think that once you\u2019re in there, you\u2019re just trying to survive and get to the later stage of the game. And even that means bringing a bit of heat on yourself, you might go that bit longer in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that towards the end, it became very clear that people were playing as individuals rather than as a team.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not even trying to catch the traitor, it\u2019s more or less trying to beat a faithful from like a faithful on a faithful. You need to outsmart them at the table like a traitor, which did occur towards the end,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n Pete managed to stay in the game until the penultimate episode. RT\u00c9<\/p>\n

Pete shared the story of a sad phone call that he received on the day he was entering the game. His mother \u2013 who didn\u2019t know he was on The Traitors\u00a0\u2013 told him that her sister, Pete\u2019s aunt, had been in hospital for surgery on a brain tumour, but that the outcome wasn\u2019t what they\u2019d hoped for, and his aunt had only days or weeks left to live.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s where the emotion and the cracks of confusion came in, because I think that I kept it at bay for so long,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne day I was sitting in the car with DJ and Kayleigh, and I looked out the window \u2013 I think it was episode eight \u2013 and I just went, I\u2019ve had enough, I want to go home to my wife, my son, check up on my mom, and see if my aunt\u2019s still alive,\u201d Pete recounted.<\/p>\n
After a talk with the on-set psychiatrist, who Pete said gave him \u201cphenomenal\u201d support, he decided to stay in the game. \u201cI think that the confusion and the emotions were at that point,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Pete\u2019s aunt sadly passed away a few weeks later. \u201cI know my aunt\u2019s looking down, she\u2019s probably going, \u2018Come on, faithfuls.
