In the U.S., health experts<\/a> estimate that nearly 120 million Americans have high blood pressure, the equivalent of 48% of the population. Depending on where you live<\/a>, your risk for it may also be increased.<\/p>\n

One medication commonly prescribed to control high blood pressure is chlorthalidone, a diuretic drug Cleveland Clinic experts say<\/a> also treats swelling caused by heart, kidney, or liver disease. It works by helping your kidneys remove fluid and salt from your blood through urine.<\/p>\n

If you take chlorthalidone, you may remember a June 2026 recall<\/a> that affected more than 11,000 bottles\u2014and now a second recall involving the same medication is being reported.<\/p>\n

On September 3, Inventia Healthcare Limited in India issued a new recall<\/a> of 13,567 bottles of chlorthalidone tablets due to \u201cfailed dissolution specifications.\u201d While the report does not include more details regarding the reason, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defines<\/a> \u201cdissolution\u201d as whether the active ingredient is able to dissolve out of the dosage unit so that the body can absorb it. In other words, the recalled tablets reportedly did not meet established standards for how the active ingredient dissolves from the medication.<\/p>\n

As of September 18, the FDA classified<\/a> the recall as Class II event, which describes \u201ca situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.\u201d<\/p>\n
