\"NIAVC NIA Prof Sanjeev Sharma Nagpur: Ayurveda practitioners should not cross over to a medicine system beyond the area in which they are trained and registered, except during medical emergencies, said Prof Dr Sanjeev Sharma, vice-chancellor of National Institute of Ayurveda<\/a> (NIA), Jaipur, speaking to TOI on the sidelines of a news conference here on Tuesday.Sharma\u2019s remarks come in the backdrop of Maharashtra\u2019s recent govt resolution allowing homeopaths to practise allopathy after completing CCMP, a six-month pharmacology course. Sharma said crosspathy could not become a routine practice, though practitioners could use available medical interventions during emergencies. \u201cWhen there is an emergency, use whatever is available to save a life. But Crosspathy cannot become the way of treating patients routinely,\u201d he said.Sharma, however, said Ayurveda practitioners should freely use modern diagnostic tools, including CT scans, MRI and ultrasound, as these are products of science and are not exclusive to any one system of medicine. \u201cWe should use them more. There is no objection to using modern diagnostic tools in Ayurveda,\u201d he said.The VC said every system of medicine has its own strengths and limitations, and practitioners should work within their respective domains. At the same time, integration of knowledge and technology was essential to improve healthcare, he said.Sharma also underlined Ayurveda\u2019s preventive healthcare focus, saying reducing the country\u2019s disease burden should be a key priority. \u201cIf we reduce the disease burden, society will benefit and the nation will prosper. Protecting a person\u2019s health is the aim and goal of Ayurveda,\u201d he said.He said Ayurvedic education has undergone significant changes in recent years, with improvements in teaching and learning and greater emphasis on quality training.
