{"id":633279,"date":"2026-09-23T07:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T07:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/633279\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T07:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T07:58:11","slug":"nick-delehanty-closes-his-dog-daycare-service-saying-business-no-longer-viable-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/633279\/","title":{"rendered":"Nick Delehanty closes his dog daycare service, saying business \u2018no longer viable\u2019 \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A dog daycare business run by failed Independent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/presidential-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/presidential-election\/\">presidential election<\/a> candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/politics\/2025\/08\/26\/if-we-get-on-the-ballot-i-wont-come-last-nick-delehanty-launches-presidential-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/politics\/2025\/08\/26\/if-we-get-on-the-ballot-i-wont-come-last-nick-delehanty-launches-presidential-campaign\/\">Nick Delehanty<\/a> has gone into liquidation, with the loss of 10 jobs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Barkleys Boutique Doggie Daycare service collected pet dogs from owners\u2019 homes in the morning, taking them to a 10-acre farm in north Co Dublin for the day before returning the animals in late afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Sample pricing on the company website suggested it charged \u20ac54 per day with home pickup and drop-off on the \u201cDoggy Bus\u201d or \u20ac34 for a drop-in service. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Delehanty, a former solicitor in asset management and investment funds, established Barkleys four years ago. \u201cIt was a cost-intensive business,\u201d he said, adding that the company could not sustain the rising cost of diesel and other expenses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He declined to set out the scale of Barkleys\u2019 liabilities. \u201cWe have had a bad summer. We tried to manage our costs and it didn\u2019t work out. The business is no longer viable. I\u2019m really disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Delehanty, a critic of multiculturalism and public spending on international protection, failed to secure local authority support for a nomination to contest the presidential election last year. With a slogan promising to \u201cmake crime illegal\u201d, he also campaigned unsuccessfully in the last general and local elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Abridged financial statements signed off in August show the company made a \u20ac23,341 profit in 2025 after incurring an \u20ac11,083 loss the previous year.
