{"id":633543,"date":"2026-09-23T14:08:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T14:08:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/633543\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T14:08:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T14:08:10","slug":"emergency-care-unit-at-tallaght-childrens-hospital-to-close-for-it-update-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/633543\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency care unit at Tallaght children\u2019s hospital to close for IT update \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The emergency care unit at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tallaght-university-hospital\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/tallaght-university-hospital\">Tallaght children\u2019s hospital<\/a> will close for four-and-a-half days to allow the centre to transfer to a new IT system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The unit will close from midnight on Thursday and will reopen at 8am on Tuesday, September 29th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Children requiring emergency care during the closure should attend the emergency department at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/children-s-health-ireland-chi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/children-s-health-ireland-chi\/\">Children\u2019s Health Ireland<\/a> (CHI) at Crumlin hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">CHI at Crumlin will have additional capacity in place, provided by staff from CHI at Tallaght.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The urgent care centre at Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown will provide additional capacity during the closure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The transfer to the new IT network system is viewed as an important milestone in the move to the new national children\u2019s hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Prof Lucy Nugent, chief executive of CHI, said this is an \u201cimportant step\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt is necessary work that will allow us to safely transition to CHI-supported IT systems and continue preparing for the move to NCHI [National Children\u2019s Hospital Ireland],\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cOur staff are determined to maintain momentum and open the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-childrens-hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/national-childrens-hospital\/\">National Children\u2019s Hospital Ireland<\/a> as quickly and safely as possible.
