\"GovtState health minister Nishant Kumar addresses the Ayurveda Day function at Gyan Bhawan in Patna on Wednesday Patna: In a bid to improve access to traditional healthcare services, the state govt is planning to set up dedicated Ayurveda wings in govt hospitals and provide Ayurvedic medicines free of cost.Speaking at the state-level celebration of the 11th Ayurveda Day 2026 at Gyan Bhawan, health minister Nishant Kumar<\/a> said on Wednesday that 294 Ayush Arogya Mandirs and Ayush hospitals were being developed across Bihar<\/a>, while existing facilities would be upgraded and renovated.The minister said the govt was working to include Ayurvedic medicines in the Essential Drug List, enabling doctors to prescribe them and patients to receive them free of cost. He also announced plans to upgrade the Govt Ayurvedic College at Kadamkuan in Patna with improved infrastructure, research laboratories, hospital and IPD facilities, and modern equipment.Describing Ayurveda as one of India\u2019s oldest healthcare traditions, Nishant said it promoted not only treatment but also a balanced and healthy lifestyle. He highlighted Bihar\u2019s historical association with Ayurveda through figures such as Maharishi Charaka, royal physician Jeevak and Acharya Nagarjuna.The minister stressed the need to expand Ayurveda services beyond urban centres and make them accessible to villages and economically weaker sections. He also called for greater digitisation of Ayurvedic healthcare through digital patient records, scientific research, evidence-based treatment and the use of AI-powered tools.Health department secretary Kumar Ravi said the core principle of Ayurveda was maintaining balance among Vata, Pitta and Kapha, as well as harmony between the body and mind and between humans and nature.He said evidence-based integration of Ayush systems with modern medicine would help strengthen public trust in traditional healthcare. Ravi urged doctors and students to leverage digital resources, modern technology and AI alongside their professional expertise.A documentary on Ayurveda and the history of the Govt Ayurvedic College was screened at the event. The minister also inspected a modern blood donation van of the Bihar State AIDS Control Society and visited an exhibition, featuring medicinal plants, an Ayurveda consultation centre and medicine distribution facilities.Eight doctors and officials were felicitated for their contribution to Ayurveda and public healthcare.
