{"id":634267,"date":"2026-09-24T06:58:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T06:58:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/634267\/"},"modified":"2026-09-24T06:58:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T06:58:12","slug":"palmerbet-breaches-australias-self-exclusion-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/634267\/","title":{"rendered":"Palmerbet breaches Australia&#8217;s self-exclusion rules\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"single-post__info-excerpt\">The ACMA discovered Palmerbet had failed to close the account of an individual who had registered with BetStop for around 18 months<\/p>\n<p>                  <a href=\"https:\/\/next.io\/news\/author\/robertnext\/\" class=\"author-block__img-link hover--opacity-fade\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n            <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"author-block__img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1671395182764-96x96.jpeg\" alt=\"Rob Fletcher photo\"\/><br \/>\n          <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Palmerbet has entered a court-enforceable undertaking after it was found to have breached rules on online gambling self-exclusion rules in Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acma.gov.au\/articles\/2026-09\/palmerbet-breaches-gambling-self-exclusion-rules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">investigation by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)<\/a>\u00a0discovered Palmerbet had failed to close the account of an individual who had registered with BetStop, the country\u2019s national self-exclusion register.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The consumer in question registered with BetStop in September 2023. However, Palmerbet did not close their account until around 18 months later in February 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACMA also found how Palmerbet also accepted 312 bets from the self-excluded individual between December 2024 and February 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australian self-exclusion rules state that once a user has registered with BetStop, operators must close their account as soon as practicable. Operators must also not provide them with any online gambling services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Palmerbet did not comply with these regulations, it was deemed to have broken the law. As such, it agreed an 18-month court-enforceable undertaking, committing the company to a comprehensive independent review of its compliance systems and processes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Palmerbet is also required to make the investment required to implement the improvements recommended by the review. In addition, it has repaid all deposits made by the user from the moment they registered on Betstop until February 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should the operator breach its undertaking, the ACMA could take it to the Federal Court to enforce its terms.<\/p>\n<p>Another self-exclusion failure in Australia\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Palmerbet is the latest Australian-licensed operator to face action over self-exclusion failures in recent months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in September,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/next.io\/news\/regulation\/dabble-sports-pays-1m-self-exclusion-failures-australia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">ACMA issued Dabble Sports with penalties totalling more than A$1m<\/a>\u00a0for breaching self-exclusion rules. Dabble failed to close 157 accounts after users registered with BetStop. It also sent 839 electronic messages to 165 people who had self-excluded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elsewhere, in May,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/next.io\/news\/regulation\/acma-entain-remediation-self-exclusion-failings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Entain agreed a court-enforceable remediation programme<\/a>\u00a0after self-exclusion failures were identified across its Ladbrokes and Neds brands.
