The event will take place at the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, on Thursday, 01 October 2026, bringing together healthcare professionals, community services and local supports to promote healthy ageing, wellbeing and connection.

The event is designed to help people stay healthy, active, informed and connected, with a particular focus on providing practical information and advice to support healthy ageing and future wellbeing.

Dr Kevin Kitt, Consultant Geriatrician, ICPOP Galway East said, “As a geriatrician, I see the difference that early assessment and appropriate intervention can make to a person’s health, independence and quality of life as they get older. Age Strong, Live Long is an important opportunity for people to take an active role in their health and wellbeing, ask questions and find out what they can do now to support their future health. My advice is not to wait until a health concern becomes a problem, staying active, maintaining social connections, looking after your physical and mental wellbeing and speaking with your healthcare professional when you have concerns can all contribute to healthy ageing.”

James Geoghegan, HSE Operational Lead, ICPOP Galway East said, “We want Age Strong, Live Long to be an opportunity for people to have meaningful conversations about their health and wellbeing and to get answers to the questions that matter to them. A key highlight of the day will be the opportunity for attendees to engage directly with a multidisciplinary panel of experts, ask questions in a relaxed setting and get practical advice that can help them plan for their future health and wellbeing.”

Alongside the expert panel, attendees will be able to speak directly with healthcare professionals, discover services and supports available in their communities and learn practical tips for maintaining their health and independence.

A wide range of information stands will be available throughout the day, covering health and wellbeing, support services, assistive technology, memory and brain health, medication advice, healthy ageing and community resources.

The programme will also include informative talks and short interactive classes. Information on COVID-19 and flu vaccinations will also be available, with free flu vaccinations available on the day.

Fiona McCleane, Operational Lead, ICPOP Galway West added, “Age Strong, Live Long is about empowering people to live well as they age and making sure they know what supports and services are available to them.
