will not walk out during Netanyahu\u2019s UN address, McEntee says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Foreign affairs minister Helen McEntee says Ireland will not walk out of the United Nations General Assembly hall when <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/middle-east-crisis_topic-5234350.html\">Israeli<\/a> prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes his national address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Netanyahu, who is currently the subject of an international arrest warrant, is in New York City <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/world\/arid-41915089.html\">to make his address at 7pm Irish time<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Palestinian Authority, meanwhile, has been refused visas to enter the US, with President Mahmoud Abbas <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/world\/arid-41915335.html\">addressing UNGA via video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Protests are taking place on the streets around the United Nations building in New York ahead of the Israeli address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">However, Ms McEntee said an Irish representative will be in the hall during Mr Netanyahu\u2019s address.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe have had somebody in the seat for every single speech that has taken place since the beginning of this week, and I expect that that will probably continue,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThere won&#8217;t be any ministers present, to be clear about that, but we have had somebody present for every single speech to date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI think that that will probably continue towards the end of the week, but again, whether that changes or not, I suppose I don&#8217;t foresee that at the moment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Irish representative to remain in hall<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ms McEntee said that other countries have said things with which Ireland has disagreed, but a representative has been in the Ireland seat at all times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">She added: \u201cI think it&#8217;s important that, particularly where we disagree vehemently with countries, and we very clearly oppose the actions of the Israeli government, that we clearly understand exactly what they&#8217;re saying as well, and I think that&#8217;s important too.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Taoiseach <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/maintopics\/miche%C3%A1l-martin_topic-5047808.html\">Miche\u00e1l Martin<\/a> will make his UNGA address at 1am Irish time on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He is expected to say that it is a time of great uncertainty and challenge for the world, and that there is a need to make the multilateral system stronger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He is
