India\u2019s premiumisation wave is moving into the kitchen<\/a>, with venture capital investors betting on startups selling design-led, functional and safer cookware and appliances.<\/p>\n
Driving the trend: Several kitchen startups have raised fresh capital, while others are in the market for larger rounds.<\/p>\n
Beyond Appliances is in talks to raise around $30 million from investors including ADIA and existing backer Fireside Ventures.Nuuk is looking to raise about Rs 100 crore at a Rs 400-440 crore valuation.Recent fundraisers include Curaa (Rs 40 crore), EDT<\/a> ($1.9 million), Cumin Co<\/a> ($5 million) and Ember<\/a> ($3.2 million). The opportunity is emerging in the semi-premium segment, between mass-market cookware and expensive global brands. Consumers are increasingly considering safer materials such as cast iron, brass and stone alongside design.<\/p>\n How big is the opportunity: The overall kitchen appliances market is estimated at $12 billion in 2026, while the premium segment could grow 15-25% annually, according to Commercify360. Startups, however, face the challenge of competing with legacy brands such as Prestige and Hawkins, which have decades of consumer trust and distribution.<\/p>\n Retaining talent key to India’s AI rise: Salesforce’s Vala Afshar<\/p>\n India can be among the top three<\/a> artificial intelligence (AI) forces in the world within a few years, but only if it holds on to talent it is losing to Silicon Valley, Salesforce\u2019s Vala Afshar said.<\/p>\n Talent drain: Speaking to ET on the sidelines of the company\u2019s annual conference, Dreamforce, in San Francisco, he warned that the gravitational pull of global tech hubs is intensifying, with Indian software founders now basing themselves in San Francisco \u201cfrom day one\u201d rather than keeping core teams in India.<\/p>\n India\u2019s place: \u201cI don’t think you have to separate by layers. India will be a significant player in all of it,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cIt\u2019s a democratic plus-one option, with an incredible talent pool and evidence of AI innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n Spotting AI unicorns: With India home to hundreds of unicorns already, Afshar said the next challenge is doubling that number quickly and making India the world\u2019s third\u2011largest hub for AI unicorns.<\/p>\n He pointed to Salesforce\u2019s own footprint in India, its second\u2011largest development hub outside the US, spread across seven cities.<\/p>\n Also Read: Nvidia’s Huang and Anthropic’s Amodei split on AI development<\/a><\/p>\n GCCs may trim 30,000 routine roles to fire up 1.5 lakh tech role explosion<\/p>\n At the same time, GCCs, the biggest driver of tech hiring in India, are still expected to create around 150,000 new roles this year.<\/p>\n The potential cuts represent about 1% of India\u2019s 2.6 million GCC workforce, according to Pareekh Jain, CEO of EIIRTrend.<\/p>\n Under pressure: The pressure is sharpest on smaller GCCs focused on routine or commoditised work.
