{"id":634933,"date":"2026-09-24T21:12:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T21:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/634933\/"},"modified":"2026-09-24T21:12:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T21:12:12","slug":"ads-coming-to-netflix-in-ireland-next-march-company-confirms-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/634933\/","title":{"rendered":"Ads coming to Netflix in Ireland next March, company confirms \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Ads will start appearing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/netflix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/netflix\/\">Netflix<\/a>\u2019s Irish service from March 1st 2027, the streaming platform announced at an event in London on Thursday evening. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It did not outline how much the service will cost to subscribers who agree to take ads as part of their package.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Netflix already has an ad-supported tier on its UK service and charges subscribers there \u00a37.99 (\u20ac9.29) a month, while its standard subscription is \u00a313.99.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Viewers are shown close to five minutes of non-skippable ads per hour of video streaming, before and during movies and TV programmes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">If the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/uk\/\">UK<\/a> model is used in Ireland, the ad-based offering is likely to cost about \u20ac10 a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Earlier this month, customers in Ireland were hit with another price increase when Netflix announced the cost of its standard plan \u2013 the one held by most customers \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2026\/09\/10\/netflixs-standard-plan-to-cost-over-10-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2026\/09\/10\/netflixs-standard-plan-to-cost-over-10-more\/\">was climbing by 12 per cent<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The standard plan, which allows two users access the platform\u2019s content on different devices simultaneously, has gone up by \u20ac2 a month to \u20ac18.99. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">That means the annual cost of a subscription for the plan will cost Irish consumers \u20ac227.88. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The annual cost was \u20ac83.88 when the service first arrived in Ireland in 2012, with just one entry-level price offered at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">That represents an increase of about 172 per cent in 14 years on the price of a standard package.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The latest round of price increases will see the streamer\u2019s cheapest plan climbing from \u20ac10.99 to \u20ac11.99. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Its top-end premium plan, which allows subscribers to stream on four devices simultaneously, is going from \u20ac23.99 to \u20ac25.99.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Amy Reinhard, Netflix\u2019s president of advertising, said its ad-supported plan will expand to nine European countries from the start of next March. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">As well as Ireland, the ad model will be rolled out in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Speaking at an event in London, Reinhard said: \u201cWe\u2019ve got cutting-edge tech. We\u2019ve got great entertainment. We\u2019ve got the most engaged and attentive audience anywhere. We\u2019ve proven we\u2019re effective.
