Nelson will direct the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/saw\/\" id=\"auto-tag_saw_1\" data-tag=\"saw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saw<\/a> movie, the first in years to have original director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/james-wan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_james-wan_1\" data-tag=\"james-wan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Wan<\/a> on board as a key creative voice. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/lionsgate\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lionsgate_1\" data-tag=\"lionsgate\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lionsgate<\/a> will release the film from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/blumhouse-atomic-monster\/\" id=\"auto-tag_blumhouse-atomic-monster_1\" data-tag=\"blumhouse-atomic-monster\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blumhouse Atomic Monster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNelson is already in the Lionsgate business as the director of the Fantastic Fest title Beware Boi\u00fana, which arrives in theaters Oct. 2. He previously directed 2021\u2019s Wrong Turn and the 2025 remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLionsgate film boss Adam Fogelson is bullish on the filmmaker, stating, \u201cHe has a singular vision for this film, and we\u2019re incredibly confident in what he\u2019ll deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSaw began life as an ultra low-budget film from Wan and writer-star Leigh Whannell. It told the story of a twisted serial killer who placed victims in elaborate, deadly traps that would be gruesome and painful to escape from. It became an outsized hit, spawning a $1 billion franchise and launching Wan\u2019s career as one of Hollywood\u2019s top filmmakers. It was last in theaters with 2023\u2019s Saw X, which grossed $112.8 million globally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWan and Whannell will produce the new installment with Jason Blum, with the film shooting from a script by Gregory Weidman &amp; Geoff Tock, a duo known for Dune: Prophecy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe new film follows Blumhouse Atomic Monster <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/blumhouse-saw-stake-twisted-pictures-1236294362\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/blumhouse-saw-stake-twisted-pictures-1236294362\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">buying out a stake<\/a> in Saw owned by Twisted Pictures in 2025, returning the franchise to Wan. Lionsgate is also an owner of the franchise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cMaking the original Saw was a defining experience for me, so it was essential to find a director who would honor that world,\u201d Wan said in a statement, adding, \u201cMike has a raw, distinctive filmmaking voice with an inventive approach to the genre, and I believe he\u2019ll bring something truly unique and special to the franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNelson added in his own statement, \u201cGreg and Geoff and James have crafted such a wild script that brings the mystery of the original while exploring new insane bloody ideas that meld so well with the brutal moral compass of the franchise.
