An editorial note re: The 42\u2019s reporting on the Uefa Nations League matches between Ireland and Israel is\u00a0available to read here.<\/a><\/p>\n Austria 3 AN ISRAELI PLAYER was sent off for his goal celebration as Austria claimed a 3-1 victory in Ireland\u2019s Nations League group this evening.<\/p>\n Sayed Abu Farchi had just equalised for Israel in Linz when he ran to the corner of the pitch, pulled out the corner flag and appeared to mimic firing a gun with it.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udea8| Israeli player Abu Farkhi celebrated his goal by grabbing the corner post. <\/p>\n The celebration earned him a second yellow card. \ud83d\udfe5 https:\/\/t.co\/9lD2Fx6xCj<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Kalshi FC (@KalshiFC) September 24, 2026<\/a> <\/p>\n Reuters <\/a>reported that the 20-year-old appeared to mimic firing a gun, while BBC Sport<\/a> also said the gesture looked to \u201cmimic shooting a gun\u201d.<\/p>\n However, Austrian broadcaster ORF reported that Abu Farchi appeared to be attempting to mimic a \u201cbilliard shot\u201d<\/a>\u00a0with the flag, while acknowledging the gesture could also be interpreted as a gun being fired.<\/p>\n Austrian outlet Heute similarly reported<\/a> that the celebration was probably intended to resemble using a billiards cue.<\/p>\n Whatever the intention, the celebration proved costly.
