This isn\u2019t Thom Browne\u2019s first foray into the world of tech. There was the innovative foldable Samsung mobile phone launched in 2020, now a coveted relic of collaborations past. \u201cThom is always a few steps ahead,\u201d mused one loyal staffer. \u201cHe may seem set in his ways, but I think sometimes we forget he\u2019s looking toward the future too.\u201d Unlike the foldable phone, we predict these headphones\u2014yours for $950\u2014may have more staying power.<\/p>\n
Also strikingly forward-thinking given the surroundings\u2014chandeliers, parquet floors, coffered ceilings\u2014was the choice to end the evening with a performance by Danish punk rock group, Iceage. Outfitted in Thom Browne suits, the band certainly didn\u2019t hold back, shaking the room with their hits and testing the seams of their suits with their moves. Downstairs, real club members had mostly cleared out of the dining room as the walls reverberated and the clash of the drums and cymbals came down through the atrium, leaving the kids to have free rein and continue partying into the night, much to the chagrin of the venue\u2019s doorman.<\/p>\n
It is this sort of subtle subversion that has made the designer such a powerful, lasting force in American fashion; one capable of lending his signature detailing to just about anything. All without a logo, there\u2019s the instant feeling that this thing, whatever it may be, was born from the unique mind of Browne.<\/p>\n
Some 20 years later, it\u2019s the same approach that was captured by Tim Blanks in his review of the inaugural Thom Browne show, that 2005 battle of the bands at Bergdorf Goodman.
