The Duke of Sussex will not take part in any high-profile events to mark Remembrance Day<\/a> to avoid distracting from official engagements attended by the royal family, HELLO! understands.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry, who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan during a decade in the Army<\/a>, will instead mark the day privately.<\/p>\n

“He’s not going to do anything that would pull focus from the Royal Family or the national commemorations at the Cenotaph in London,” says a friend. “More likely, he’ll mark it in the same way that most veterans do, privately, either at church or at their local war memorial’s annual service.”<\/p>\n

Speculation has been mounting over how Harry might mark the solemn day this year, having done so publicly on several occasions since his departure from royal life in 2020.<\/p>\n

A possible visit to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire has been mooted as an alternative to attending commemorations at the Cenotaph in central London<\/a> in an unofficial capacity.<\/p>\n

But the Duke is said to be keen to avoid any drama that might follow such a public outing for him as the King and Queen lead official events to honour the fallen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“For Harry, Remembrance Sunday is a deeply personal and important occasion, a time to honour those who have served, remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and stand alongside veterans,” says the friend.<\/p>\n

“He has no desire to create drama or do anything that could distract from his family’s role in the national commemorations.”<\/p>\n

Harry has not taken part in National Remembrance Sunday events since November 2019, shortly before he and Meghan left the UK for a new life in America.<\/p>\n

The following year, he wore his service medals as he and Meghan were pictured laying flowers at the graves of two Commonwealth soldiers<\/a> interred at Los Angeles National Cemetery. Their outing came after his request for a wreath to be laid at the Cenotaph on his behalf was turned down by palace officials.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has marked the poignant anniversary in different ways. Last year he published an essay expressing his pride at fighting for his country, timing it to land ahead of official Remembrance events and a day before his brother William’s keynote speech at the Cop30 climate talks in Brazil.<\/p>\n

The Duke and Duchess were pictured over Remembrance weekend itself at a party hosted to celebrate Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday.<\/p>\n

However, photographs of them at the party were later removed from Instagram<\/a>. According to Kris’s daughter Kim Kardashian, the couple had been concerned about how it might look, even though Harry was wearing a poppy.<\/p>\n

In August 2025, the Duke asked a friend to lay a wreath at the Burma Star memorial in Staffordshire following the national VJ Day commemorations attended by the King and Queen.<\/p>\n

It was accompanied by a letter in which he paid tribute to his grandfather, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who served in the Pacific campaign.<\/p>\n
